Educational Activities
- Research Materials - The Foundation maintains a library of books, articles and catalogs related to recycling and other environmental issues facing Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Some will be available to researchers on line in the near future as funding and homepage space permits.
- School Activities - We have worked with over 75 schools addressing kindergarten to post-graduate level students on the recycling issues that face Puerto Rico and other Island environments. Activities include tours of recycling centers and manufacturing plants that use recycled raw materials; establishing recycling programs within the schools; helping students learn of recycling opportunities within their community through seminars and direct motivational visits.
- Television and Radio Programming - A weekly TV Show to be aired on the Educational Network will highlight environmental issues related to the Caribbean. Topics will include political action, private industry initiatives, availability of economic resources, community programs etc. Already, a local radio station donates recycled T-shirts as part of a promotional campaign and dedicates two hours per month to Recycling and will increase to four hours its monthly reporting on pet animals, strays, and adoptions. On November 24th, a new TV Program will be launched on the Islandwide broadcasting station, Channel 7. The Program will be aired every Sunday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM and the Foundation will contribute some 15 minutes of programming related to RECYCLING and ANIMAL WELFARE issues.
- Award Program - The Foundation tries to recognize and thereby give others the incentive to actively participate in its activities or in some way bring recycling or its other concepts to practical reality. Each year, the Foundation recognizes at an Awards Banquet those community participants it believes have been of significant assistance to this cause. The categories include contributors from the press such as radio, TV and newspapers, schools and individual students or teachers, companies and employees etc. Look for the 1996 winners in December1996.
